Aloha Hawaii Gourd Society members and
friends...

Our First annual Gourds in Paradise
Festival (June 12 & 13th)
was a great success! We were very pleased to have a
good response from the public. Unfortunately, the County
of
Hawaii was in the process of completing the renovation
of Hale Halewai pavilion...so, we had to work around
the construction...so sorry. Our Second Annual Gourds
in Paradise Festival will be January 11, 12 13, 2008,
@ the beautifully renovated Hale Halewai Pavilion.
(work is now complete).
The date is set ...and the planning begins again.
Our first festival was a success because of a few very
helpful people...we were disappointed that the response
to our e-mails and mailed out programs was small...perhaps
the date was difficult...many events happen in June!
Our new annual date will be in January, hopefully being
a more friendly date for a festival.
Please help us realize our desire
to revitalize the ipu culture in Hawaii...
we need
your input and energy!
We will be passing out seeds and seedlings at our next
HGS meeting @ Evie's Ipu Farm, July 28, 2007, @ 11 AM
- 2 PM...potluck and swimming at two-step to follow meeting.
Please be sure to mark the calender for this date, as
we will make every effort to have seedlings for you.
If you are interested in beginning an Ipu Patch in your
area of the islands, please contact me. We are hoping
to spark interest in lots of areas...for example, one
in OceanView, another in Na'aleau, another in Wiamea...how
about you?...can you grow ipu? We will help in every
way possible! USDA fruit fly traps are available upon
request.
We will begin teaching classes as soon as the ipu begin
to ripen...an e-mail will be sent about two weeks before
the classes. Classes will be limited to number of ipu
available and must be registered for in advance. Cost
will be $50. You will have two ipu projects to complete.
There will be a discount for HGS (paid ) members. If
you are not a member of our society yet, please consider
going to www.hawaiigourdsociety.com and signing up. Mahalo.
Evie and I will be traveling to our neighbor islands
for classes and beginning new Ipu Patches for the HGS
later in the summer. If you know of any good contacts,
please pass them on to us.
We wish to thank all of the wonderful folks who were
a part of our first Festival...we look forward to the
next Gourds in Paradise Festival...
IPU RULE!
