Example of Ipu Heke' style of Gourd Decoration Niihau Ipu Pawehe (Decoration)
Date:
Saturday - August 27th, 2011
Time: 10:30 am until 12:00 noon

Cost: $75
Materials: Includes ipu and supplies.
Location: The Shops at Mauna Lani

Class Description: Mary Amos will teach the Niihau method of gourd decoration.

 

Ipu Heke' (Hawaiian Drum)Ipu Heke' (Hawaiian Drum)
Date:
Friday - August 26th & Saturday August 27th, 2011
Time: 10:00 am until 1:00 pm'

Cost: $75
Materials: Includes two ipu and supplies.
Location: The Shops at Mauna Lani

Class Description: Mele Kama will teach the construction and gourd decoration Ipu Heke' (Hawaiian Gourd Drum).

Class Description: Evie Morby will teach her method of mini-ipu decoration using a wood-burning tool.

Time: on-going throughout festival

Cost: $25
Materials: Includes coconut leaf, fiber and supplies.
Location: The Shops at Mauna Lani

Class Description: Sam Kama will teach his method of weaving baskets with coconut fiber and leaves.(NI'U).

 

 

Koko net weavingKoko (Net Making)

Time: On-going throughout festival

Class Description: Hawaiian methods of cordage and net making

 

 

Lauhala WeavingLauhala Weaving

Class Description: Ku'u ipo Morales will teach her method of lauhala weaving.

 

 

Feather Lei MakingFeather Lei Making Demonstrations
Date:  Friday - August 26th & Saturday - August 27th, 2011
Time: on-going throughout festival

Cost: FREE!
Location: The Shops at Mauna Lani

Description: Eliza Demmy will demonstrate her method of feather lei making throughout the festival.

 

 

Pine Needle WeavingPine Needle Weaving
Date: Saturday - August 27th, 2011
Time: 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm'

Cost: $45
Materials: Includes supplies.

Class Description: Evie Morby will teach her method of pine needle weaving

 

 

Ipu Ole and Umeki (Umeke) Hawaiian gourd drums & bowlsIpu `Ole and Umeke
Date:  Friday- 8/26/11      Time: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Date:  Saturday 8/27/11  Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Cost: $20 per each ipu or umeki the student wants to create.
Materials: Includes supplies
Location: The Shops at Mauna Lani

Class Description: Aunty Donna Jensen will teach her method of Ipu Ole (hand drum) and Umeki (Hawaiian bowl) gourd decoration..
